This custom is from national Ostridge day, it is a far eastern tradition dating back to before the Roman times when everyone from a small village called Ostridge would put their heads in the ground so that no one could see them.

Either that, or he tripped and got stuck there… why isn’t anyone helping him?

Anyway, it is an interesting picture. I have no idea why the guy is doing that though.
