My cousin just enrolled in a state college, and the teachers write the books and then require the students to buy them.

One book cost $175
then every couple years they come out with a new edition where they mix up the page numbers just enough so you can't use the old edition. That way no one can buy a used book so all students must by new books.
I though this was outrageous, until I found out the latest scam, now a teacher can throw up an online book and require their students to buy it,
one online book costs $80.00
for something that cost the teacher nothing.

If a teacher has 30 students in 4 classes that they require a $175 book that's $21,000 that students are required to pay to the teachers.

but the teachers are not happy with that, so they have come up with a new scheme to get even more money, now they have workbooks, which is something like 30 pages in paperback spiral binder, the kind kinkos does for $1 these they can charge an additional $100.

because taking $21,000 just isn't enough for them to be happy with.

I just think it's really sad when you have a group of over paid people who take advantage of their situation and basically steal money from the poor students.

Oh wait... that's how our government works too.
I forgot. :D
