@cheri: I found you via google. I searched for "Remeber the Titans", I saw the movie when I was in Chicago this summer.

I have distant relatives who live in the states. It is a long way but today we have planes so it's only hours and not days.

I was in Chicago a few years ago,
I think they call it the windy city.

did you go up in the sears tower?

I didn't go up the Sears Tower, i don't like high places.

Yes, they call it the Windy City, because the air is always moving because of Lake Michigan. If you want I can explain it.

you are actually inside a large room, you can't even go outside or look down, so standing in the middle of a room looking out a window really doesn't give you the feeling of being very high up.

I thought it was cool, but I was a little dissapointed that your just looking out the window of a building, like a lot of other buildings.

The empire state building seems a lot taller just because your outside and you can look down a lot more.

anyway, I did notice when I was there it was very windy a lot of the time.
I didn't know it was because of the Lake.

Welcome Smurf

Ok, this is a true story of Paris and my sister.
She is a heavy girl and consious of her weight (aren't we all). She was pregnant and out for a walk with her husband when she turned her ankle on a cobblestone and fell.
She couldn't get up because of her ankle, so her husband called emergency. In Paris apperently, the fire department responds to calls. Anyway, this fire truck shows up and the guys are trying to lift her and one of them gets the measurement wrong and asks?
"How many tons do you weigh?"
My sister burst into tears.

ouch,
that language barrier can really cause a problem sometimes.

it's really a shame when someone gets all the words right except one,
but that one word causes a problem like this.

Yes, well at least it now makes a funny story and no lives were lost.

Another time, my Mom and Dad (who live in Spain 6 months of the year), were teaching English and asked what American Restaurant they like best:
"Booger King" One girl shouted...(she doesn't know how right she was )

one time I was baby sitting a small kid he was maybe 5 years old,

I could speak about 3 words of German and he didn't know a single word of English,

but he kept saying this one word all night, just repeated it all the time, he would call us by that name and then laugh.

So 3 or so hours later, remember how to say "what is this?" in German, and I would say what is this? and then point to my elbow, or ear or something, and he would say the German word for what I pointed at.

I asked him what is this?, and I pointed to my butt, well that was the word he had been calling everyone all night. :)
