The government here built missile silos back when we were trying to keep up with the Russians, and some of them didn’t have to be destroyed, so they sold them and a few were converted into houses, well they already pretty much had houses built into them.

I was thinking about buying one to live in, I think you got over 20,000 square feet of living space not counting the command centers and other underground buildings that could be converted into something cool, plus some people used the actual missile silos for stuff like storage.

It was all really well insulated with 15 or so feet of concrete, so your heating and cooling bills would be very low.

I remember one of them sold for around $60,000 dollars, and I think they cost $40 million to build, or $80 million I can’t remember.

I thought it was a bargain, at the time,

I just looked it up, the Titan 1 sites had 45,000+ square feet, they guy wants 1.8 million for it now, hopefully he did some improvements to it… I can’t remember if that’s the one that sold for $60,000

Here is the site:

Crikey, it would take a seriously rich person to take that on. I wonder if someone would pay that?

Darn IE wont let me get to the site without D/L the HTML, which in turn won't let me see images. One day I going fix that, its in the registry just need to do change a 1 to a 0 on the right setting:rolleyes: BTW maybe Penny would like to have one of these houses:D

the average house around here is about 1200 square feet and sells for about $300,000

so to get 45,000 square feet for $60,000 was a very good deal,
for a million I don't think it such a good deal anymore.
I remember one guy bought one by my cousins house for around $25,000
he is probably happy if he still has it now.

Umm, I thought housing would be more expensive than that for where you live Bling. Dont they call people from your state the gold chain brigade. I thought that meant, pots of money. London is a very expensive place to buy somewhere to live. Cheapest place is around £200000 and in the centre of London you will get a one bed flat for that if you are very lucky and that wouldnt be in a very nice area. Housing is not cheap.

In San Francisco you can't really buy anything for a million dollars anymore, but the farther away you get the less expensive things get, here in Sacramento I think the average price house is only around $400,000 and I am in an older neighborhood so they are more like $300,000 a real bargain. :)

There is still lots of land here to build on so that keeps the prices down some.

here is a better picture of the missile house...

The price for a 1200sq. ft. house is $75,000 to $80,000 in greater Greenboro,N.C area. BTW Cheri the $ is on the same key as the 4. Is the symbol for pound on the key with the 4?:D

That sounds very cheap to me MT. The pound sign is the same as the 3 on my keyboard.
Bling, that is a much better pic. It must be an interesting place to live methinks :p

I'ld put a elevator in it, stairs are too much trouble. I wonder if it has a fallout bunker build in the silo.:D

The first picture is if you want to keep a really low profile, just a reinforced automatic door.
