hello,

I couldn't see a Suggestions thread so i thought this was the next closest thing.

Anyways, in the last few days i have for some reason (maybe due to the crap weather) found myself on this website all the time. I'm sure it's pretty unhealthy, but nevertheless wondered if:

1. I'm the only one..? Are there any others out theere like me who find themselves on this site more than they should be?

2. Could we maybe have a chatroom added? Not sure of the technical implications, but would anyone be interested in such a feature..? There always seems to be people online and it would be a great way to meet more people. So far, Elmer & Gina are my only online friends (besides the hundreds in my msn contacts..but they're not eutopian brethren)... and i'd like to meet more of you!

let me know your thoughts on this. :D

I think this was suggested a couple times before, and there just didn't seem to be enough people interested at the time, the shout box seems to work for some people, and people being from all over the world in different time zones may play a part also.
I am not against the idea, if enough members are interested in the idea to make it work then I would be happy to look into it.
I know there are some groups who plan a weekly chat from 6pm to 7pm on sundays. or something like that.
if everyone could plan for some time, that may get things going this time?

Hi n141311, a chatroom is a good idea. Any added new features to enhance members time @ the Utopia forum is a good thing.

Now listen mate, what's this "find themselves on this site more than they should be" caper? There's no such thing! :lol2:

Initially it could be set up as Elmer outlined, at a certain time of the week for x amount of time. It could be run on a trail basis at first, and if it proves to be popular with members, made a permanent feature.

The shout box does not do it for me, but, if members like it, then by all means.
Basically, I'm in favour of anything that keeps existing members and may attract new members. ;)

Thank You holmes glad you like it. I am also on this site allot cant stay away. Well I'm a staff member but it was like that when I was just a member as well:lol2:Been to many forums and joined in the past, but when I joined this one I called it home after one visit :D
This chat room sounds interesting. A place to meet and chat with your fellow Utopians, sounds nice. :)

I don't think we would be able to run any kind of chat function that was added on to vbulletin, I know the shoutboxes that are run on the site increases the number of database hits by 30 times or something like that.

since we are already over our cpu limit, I think out best choice is to find something like the shout box that is run off another site, I think at one time someone suggested a channel could be set up for us.

I don’t use any chat software, but it would be handy if the site were down to keep in touch with people.

Well maybe we can have one in the future. We'll keep that idea in mind. We have more pressing matters at this time. :D

well, like I said, if it ran like the shoutbox or there was a pop up window that came from another site that would be fine.

we are going to start an AA chapter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcoholics_Anonymous) for hundredbing anonymous for people who spend too much time on the forum and need an intervention to get them off the computer. :D
