I use Norton, and think its the best but had to pay for it cos the pirate copies are not working anymore!!
I haven't used one for a while, the last time I has one running it seemed like it slowed my computer down and I didn't like that.

I cant stand Norton I got a major trojan that Norton didnt detect so I put Mcafee in and found it. Zonealarm has a good firewall too good for me though LOL I use Mcafee and I love it I have had no problems with it at all :)

I have used quite a few different av programmes, the one I was most dissatisfied with was Norton, an absolute hog when it came to resources and it wasn't very quick to publish new databases and a job and a half to get rid of the thing. Quickheal was a very good for me, likewise Grisoft, at the moment I'm using Eset on one of my pc's and that seems to be very fast and thorough and doesn't have a large footprint. McCaffee didn't impress me with the exception of their stand-alone Stinger.
I also run AntiyGhostbuster in the background, that seems to find ghosts that other software doesn't always find.

p.s. A very good free av and one of the fastest to update is ClamWin.
A place that scans files for virii for free, using anything up to 30 different programs is:-http://www.virustotal.com/

Used to have McAfee retail, thought it was okay but didn't renew. Replaced it with AVG and I loved that it was fast and didn't slow down my pc. Then I tried Norton on trial and found 1 virus that AVG missed (in one of my downloaded files that I hadn't opened yet) so now I'm trying NOD32. My newer pc has Norton built-in but I'll probably replace it when it expires.

I personally use Norton 360 on all of my systems and it works great. It isn't setup the way that other Norton programs are setup and it also doesn't continue to eat up your computer to make it slower.
It runs smoothly and it catches everything I have thrown at it so far. That would be my suggestion on something to use, but that is up to you if you want it or not.

I'm going to be the odd ball. I dont use a anti-virus program. I use Comodo Firewall-freeware. 2 active anti-spyware programs. Pest patrol & Elwido.
And something else I do. Right click on a Flash Advertisement. Chose Settings, set the slider to zero, then click close.
Does 2 things
1. stops the advertisment site from getting information from your PC and not to give you a cookie. :D
2. And the odd one, it cut down on my CPU usage

I have quite recently swapped over to Eset (nod32) and am very, very, happy with it. I use Look'n'Stop as the firewall, a more effective, light and simple to use firewall, I don't think you will find.
My advice is to stay as far as possible away from Norton. It is a notorious resource hog, extremely intrusive and is difficult to clean from your system, when you want to get rid of it.
