A friend of mine needs to find out he weight of a square foot of stucco.

in case you don't know what stucco is, it's the stuff you put on the outside of a house.

anyway, I thought I would be able to find out what it weighs on the internet quite easily, but I have really been searching and found nothing.

There are a lot of factors to consider when calculating the weight, such as thickness of the stucco, underlayment, and whether to use metal screening, or just chicken wire for support. Stucco can be sprayed or rolled or troweled on, and can range from 1/4" to 3" in thickness, so there are a lot of different factors that need to be known before you can account for the weight of a specific installation. No pat answer here, my friend!! However, the weight is borne by the load-bearing walls, and is usually not a factor when considering siding options, unless of course there is a specific problem with the fill on which the home is situated, such as peat content, or slope. My biggest concern would be if the roofing was going to be changed to Spanish Tile to match the stucco, which adds a tremendous amount of weight to the supporting walls!

Well my friend needs it for a city inspector, so it does not have to make sense (they seldom do) he just needs some answer.

last week he had to get an engineer to say that an 8 inch concrete slab was as strong as a wood 2x4.

now that's really silly.

so if the stucco was 5/8 inch thick and on chicken wire where would you look for the weight?

even the people who manufacturer the stuff don't know.

Lists the wieght of Concrete slurry @ 90 lbs. per cubic foot, so a square foot at 5/8 thick would be about 5.626 pounds.
