Hey guys,i wanted to know if it is illigall to use VBulletin if you don't have bought it. p.x if a friend gives it to you..

Yes, vbulletin requires you to buy a license, the one for this site was $160. You can also just buy 1 year at a time, I think that is $85. but if your going to use it more than 2 years your better off with the 1st option, the unlimited one.
and both of those are the cost per site.

no problem,

I have phpbb set up on a couple sites, if your host has fantistico you can set it up and have it running in just a couple minutes. compaired to vbulletins 1 or 2 hours plus.

you don't have to go hunting through the code on phpbb and there are some other advantages to phpbb.

I would say that vbulletins advantage is that the control panel is set up for multiple people to use, where phpbb is set up for one admin and mods for only the forums. if you just have one admin I would really recommend phpbb, plus it's free so you can't beat the price. :)

Then if your forum takes off and becomes so big you have to have a bunch of admins to run it then you can always transfer to vbulletin later.

The transfer program they have works for phpbb, but not so great for invision.
