Do you have cable, dsl or do you still have snail pace dialup?
If you have cable or dsl, what speed do you have?

I switched to cable too when it came out, now I couldn't live with out it. when we were thinking about moving the first thing we decided on was that the new place had to have cable, or we couldn't move there. :)

Yes, I have dsl broadband, speed 8mb and I am capped at 40 gbs a month allowed downloads, I have to pay extra if I download any more. It drops every now and again and I am tearing my hair out then :D

I was lucky the first year I had cable I don't think it went down a single time, now it goes down about every 3 or 4 months but usually for not more than an hour.
when it goes down I always think how did I ever live without cable. :)

when it gets to be about -30c here...i lose my connection...no idea why...might have to do with the fact that my pc is in the unheated part of my basement and my pc likes heat

I realise just how lucky I am, especially comparing mine with Asterix. But yours is still better than dialup isnt it. Lets hope things in Greece improve soon. :p

wow, I guess I can't complain with my service since they just boosted my maximum download speed from 1.5 megabits per second (mbps) to 3mbps, at no additional charge.
although, usually I am at the max speed of the site sending files to me so the extra speed does not really do much good most of the time. (waaaa , poor me) lol.

Well, I'm currently on the best available plan in Australia.
$99.00 a month gets me a 1.5mbps connection and the downloads/uploads are unmetered :)
I was forced to go on this plan about a year ago beacuse the company i was previously with blacklisted my name for too many uploads :(
Ahh well pretty damn happy with this one i must say

ZEEZEE,
that's the plan I used to have then they cut the price in half and doubled the connection speed. (gotta love these guys)
so now I am getting over 3 mbps and paying $55.00 per month (but that includes cable TV also)
I stopped doing this a while back because when they boosted the speed it started not to matter so much, but I just timed one of my downloads, and I downloaded a 6 meg file in around 3 seconds. it's not that easy to tell exactly when it starts and stops so it's not exact. but it was between 2 to 4 seconds anyway.
and it's unlimited usage so I can download as much as I want which is the best part. :)

I am in California, when the service frist came out it was kind of cool but I guess now I have gotten used to it now. I did notice when they doubled the speed it probably only increased mabye 20% of the sites I go to because they can't transfer at that rate, so for example on rapidshare I might as well be on dialup they are so slow it doesn't matter. but there are other sites that can hit the higher speeds and that's very cool. :D

it's kind of annoying here in the USA it seems everyone is always trying to talk you into something you don't want, so they called me up one day and had some high pressure sales person offer me some discount if I signed up for the TV service too along with internet. they said I would be saving money for some number of months, I can't remember any of the details.
anyway, I called them last week and said I know your discount ran out a long time ago and I have been paying extra because I didn't cancell the TV service. so I want to drop it now. they said if I cancel my TV service because of the plan I am on I would end up paying another $5 per month. lol
that's just crazy, that TV plus internet is cheaper than just internet by itself???

Crikey Bling thats very odd!!
Elmer
10-05-2006, 12:25 PM
yeah, it's crazy but they do that here a lot...
I can buy a round trip ticket to New York and back for a lot less than I can buy a one way ticket out there.
So when I want to go to New York from here, I buy a round trip ticket and schedule the return flight then throw the return ticket away. I have done this several times.
Before all the 911 stuff, I could buy a round trip ticket then sell the return flight and when I could find the right person to buy I could fly for free.

I have Cable...though it was revolting for a long time and was getting worse and worse. I called and called the service desk and was 'walked' through the same stupid/useless steps again and again. I kept insisting it was the modem, but they insisted back that it wasn't. Finally, I convinced them to send a tech guy and he came and after about 10 seconds said "It's the modem"... He put a new one and it's way way better. I downloaded season 2,3,4 of 24 to watch with my Mom (she loves it so). That worked out well to, because the dvd player can play avi files, so I don't even have to translate to DVD format...phew! That would have been a ton of work.
I would be crappy on a whitness stand wouldn't I? I never just answer the question, I go on and on....

The last time I had some problems with my cable, they sent the repair guy out and he thought it was my computer, so he messed with it for a while, then he said it was my modem, so he replaced it with a new one, then he thought it was one of the connections or the line, so he runs a new line out to the cable box, then he checks and there was no signal comming in from the box.
As it turns out nothing was wrong with any of my stuff that he replaced, there was just no signal comming in, so he called someone and they turned the signal back on to the box outside and it was working in about 10 minutes.

I have RR cable from NY, I can't complain. It was 2mbps from when I first sign up. They upped the cap to 3 mbps later on, later again to 4 mbps. and now to 8 mbps. 4x the speed for the same price. I still wish for a 100 mbps connection thou, I know people from some countries can get it for cheap.

I have Verizon DSL. I don't know the speed of it. I am now waiting for Verizon Fios, which is faster than cable. I can't wait to dump my cable company. I only use them for the television (digital cable) and of course they are ripping me off with that anyway. My bill was $60.00 a month for cable tv and when I added HBO to watch the Sopranos, it jumped to $119.00 a month. So as soon as the Sopranos are finished, so is my HBO!

I use cable. Its supposed to be a 5MB connection I think.
I dont use cable for TV at all. I rarely watch it so whats the sense. Saves me tons of money. When I used to watch it, too much time was wasted trying to find the least stupid thing to watch. Which seems crazy with 500+ channels. So I download all the TV shows and movies I want now and then watch them whenever Im ready. I love it like that. :)

I'm the same as you Janice - I never watch tv - I can't take the commercials - even something like 24, I prefer to download and watch in peace the next day rather than weep quietly on the couch as yet another 15 minutes of commercials start. I think advertisers are kind of killing the goose - more and more people I talk to have given up watching directly and either time shift or download.
