What does it mean to be human? What is the ideal balance between reason and emotion? Who gets to set the societal norms? What are the penalties for violating the norms? Or, even worse, what are the unwritten penalties for violating basic human nature?
With almost everyone in this film trying to live an impossible emotionless facade, yet seething with suppressed longings, the tension builds tremendous frustration in the viewer. The hyper-paranoia of the societal elite provides an atmosphere of the ultimate "big brother" oppression. This film depicts a totalitarian regime that is on the brink of internal collapse, and an oppressed society that is in the final stages of preparing for revolution.
IMO...good cast...decent acting...tolerable plot...tentatively explores some truly profound topics...worth seeing
