Hi,
I keep getting 'helpful' messages when I rename a file - 'am I sure?' - How can I turn that off? - I can't stand all the freakin' 'help' from programs and such - all it means is many more mouse clicks.

That's a strange one, never heard of windows asking confirmation to rename a file. Windows by default asks confirmation to delete a file, I turned that off on mine. Sounds like you've probably got a third party software maybe doing that. Do you have some kind of XP (I'm taking it that you're using XP) tweaking program installed? If so, I'd look through the settings on that. You could try to go to any folder on your computer and click the Tools tab up top and then Folder Options then View and click the Restore Defaults button at the bottom, but I don't think that will work, don't see any setting there that says anything about renaming files...

Just thought of something, are you renaming file extensions also or just the file names?

Funny I have never noticed it before, but I am using windows 2000 and each time I rename a file it asks me if I really want to do it.

But what I do is my finger just hits the enter key twice, real fast. I didn't even know I was doing this. But I went to rename a file and I was watching because I didn't think I got a message like that and it flashed up on my screen. Then I realized what I had done. So I guess I have always been getting those messages too I just never noticed them before. :)

I don't think I have third party stuff - but really who knows with me. No, I wasn't changing the type - just changing JackB_24_season4_3.avi to 3.avi - hey, maybe I'm too simple.
I just started noticing it - oh well...no biggy...I'z just lazy!

I am using a stripped down version of XP, perhaps that annoyance was hacked out of my copy :). What are you using Penny, XP or 2000 or ?

I just found out something, from Explorer you can click on "view" then "customize this folder" that will run the wizard and from there you can to into the actual code that runs Explorer and make custom changes.

I had no idea that was possible.
