I am all for freedom and all that, but... there is a car dealer that has a new ad that says everyone who buys a car gets a free gun.

Now I am sure it's a really nice gun, and if they offered it to me for free I would probably take it since it's probably worth $500 and you can give it to someone as a really nice gift, or you can sell it and make some very easy money.

But the idea of just putting a few thousand extra guns on the street for no good reason, is something I am really not excited about. There were 5 or 6 kids that were shot a couple weeks earlier, while they were at school about 5 miles from the car dealer. Probably with a gun like the one the car dealer is giving out.

I never thought I would say this, but people like this really make me think that gun control might not be such a bad idea after all.

That horrifies me. People are not allowed to own a gun in the UK but in London its knives that are a problem. Most days someone is killed with a knife and its very scary!! :(

I was reading something about that, but it was like in the USA each year 50,000 people are murdered and in England and several other countries with gun control it was like a couple hundred.

can't remember the exact numbers but the point was that the countries with gun control had only a very small fraction of the number of people killed.

I dont see how this is possible because in order to be selling guns, you need to be an dealer with an very very special kind of licences, they need to get from the BATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firarms). I myself own alot of guns, and I dont see anything wrong with it unless they break any of the GCA or Gun control Act regulations, also even though they are giving away "free" guns anyone who would want one would have to go thru ncis (national instant criminal background check), if they dont have a clean record then they dont get the gun. So i dont think the guns would go into the wrong hands. Plus i bet the guns there are gonna give out and probally gone be any type of .22 or 9mm such as Rugers, or Berreta's cause they are general cheap.

I read about it in the news paper, but I just googled it and here is a picture of the ad. (it's for shotguns.)

"Gordon Atkisson, the president of Country Dodge Chrysler Jeep, told NBC 10 that a local gun dealer supplied the shotguns for the promotion, and the dealership is doing everything by the book."

other people must have thought something was wrong with this too.

I used to think that any government involvement in people rights was just wrong. I also used to think that everyone should be allowed to buy a gun. But after traveling to some other countries and seeing how different things are, I have changed my mind on gun control.
That and having someone point a gun at my head and tell me 7 or 8 times he was going to shoot me if I didn't give him enough money,
that probably had something to do with it too.

Ya, see just like they said they are going to have background check and all the other good stuff, so there isny any need to worry. Plus i wonder what type of shotguns they are going to give out. mabey some 12 gauge super magnum's.

I am glad they do the background checks, the only problem is as soon as you get the gun it's a used gun and can be sold the same day with no background check.
And of course you can sell it for a profit to someone who can't pass a background check.
