Hey Guys,
A couple of days ago, I noted that there was a thread posted about Muslims and why they blow themselves / others up.- I can't quite remember the exact content now or the location of the thread although I believe it is still floating around on the site somewhere.
Anyway, the point of this thread is to raise a question. A question for those who found humour in the original thread, who believed there might be a lining of truth in it, or who were just pretty well outraged at what was written.
The question is: what exactly are your thoughts about Terrorism and Muslims? Let's keep the topic clean, intellectual, and based on the facts. As someone from Britain and who recently visited America I know that there is a clear difference in how people think and what people know about this topic in the US versus the general public in the UK. I put this difference largely down to how different our news coverage of topics is (just compare BBC News to Fox).
So, I figured this would be a good way to address any disconnect and a friendly openly spirited way.
As a primer (and also what motivated me to write this thread as a response) was watching a youtube video that challenges people to answer this very question:
Clip 1: "The equation"
//http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Nb9275XZNE&feature=user
Clip 2: "How to break it down"
//http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAmJlUdjSKk&feature=user
Do watch the videos and let me know your thoughts.
Stereotypes are dangerous, and I hope that even if no one feels the need to reply to this thread, that we as a 'global community' can overcome the ignorance out there.
Also feel free to use this thread as an opportunity to ask any 'tabboo' questions about Islam / Muslim's to someone who can (try to) give you a first hand account.
