I'm a big believer in freeware. There's so much freeware out there that does alot better job than the comparble shareware. I used to use the fixed versions of AVG Antivirus and ZoneAlarm, but it just got to be so much hassle with blacklisted serials etc. I now use the free versions of AVG and ZA, the only difference in the free versions and shareware versions being with the free you don't have the full range of options you have with the pay for versions, but most of those options I never used anyway. I'm not really sure about cpu and ram, I've never had any noticeable problems running them and other apps. My main concern is with security, and using AVG, ZA and Firefox, I haven't had any computer problems or spyware in a long time now :)

I like the free version of zone alarm, I think it is well worth the the time to install it.
but I don't like the anti-virus programs I have tried in the past. They seem to slow stuff down too much or cause problems. So what I do is never run microsoft outlook, that eliminates a lot of problems right there.

Then I am careful about which programs (executable files) I run. And the few viruses I do get I just use the free programs on the internet to remove them.

That is what seems to work best for me.

I have always used Norton, but it does take up quite a bit of space, but it works for me ok

I used Norton, but it kept requiring me to apply patches all the time and it also didn't like me adding new programs...so I got rid of it. Now I use adaware, spybot, and that free yahoo spyscan and when my computer gets too buggy, I just wipe it. I like things that don't bug me all the time. I used zone alarm many moons ago back when I was running a 486, but it was constantly telling me things, like that crazy relative that just won't go away...hey wait, that's me!

NOD32, Blackice, Sygate, Kaspersky, Comodo. We should have them all in the appz section. If i were you i wouldnt use those main frame anti virus, like norton, mcafee, zone alarm .. Norton is GOOD, only if you know how to tweak it and also it takes up to much cpu. Mcafee has the worst detection rates, but their firewall is fairly good. Zone alarm takes up to much CPU. NOD32, barely takes up cpu usage, and has the most detection rates. Kaspersky was ranked number 1 for firewall, and Comodo was ranked 2nd. Blackice is also very good. Sygate is just like blackice with out the application protection.

Mabey, Also dont use more than 1 anti virus because, there's going to be software problems, and dont use more than 1 firewall because they will make interval loops, and everything would be chaotic

Hi all,
well I'm talking to you and the others as well, well when talking about antivirus I suggest you Avg7.5 it's the best that I have ever used ( I have a key available till 2112=105 years) if you want it I can sentd it to you . then come avast 4.7.
Now firewalls choose either sygat(I have a permanent key) blackice or ashampoo firewall .comodo is the best but you must be expert to use it.
antispyware you can use xoftspy and ad-aware for a daily scan, and spy cope for a monthly scan.
and for trojan you can use trojan guard gold but xoftspy also helps in getting rid of trojans.
After havibg these programs you are now ready for any war as gray ghost said :) . and I say that you can jump in fire and don't worry
good luck

Dont use ashampoo, theres a "exploit" in it that allows anyone to open all your ports, also Comodo isnt "thee best" its good yes but it doesnt compare @ all to kaspersky no way. Also why would you need all those programs? I think the main things you really need for spyware is - Spybot 1.4, ad-aware pro, and spyblaster.

I was just kidding, I have a firewall installed and it updates once in a while and is not that bad.
