There was a TV show on about people who won the lottery and all of the winners were no happier a year later than before they won the money, several of them said it was the worst thing that had ever happened to them.

They were collecting welfare from the government before so they always had money for food, clothing, and housing coming in each month. But now that they are millionaires they can’t collect any more money from the government and they spent all their money, so they are homeless now.

So do you really think you'd be any happier than you are now?

No, I doesnt do most people any good. But I could one heck of a lot of good if I won it. I would give most away to people that really needed it. Such as, a kid who needed a wheel chair or treatment for cancer, or an old person who needed a stairlift in their home. You get the picture?
One thing on a personal level I would like to do, is get my friend rosy over to London for a holiday of a lifetime. What fun us girls would have!!

Well they say money can't bring happiness but at least you can pick your own misery... I'd be willing to give it a try anyways.

The main problem with all the lotto winners that they interviewed was that they thought they were rich and could buy anything, so they went out and bought houses, cars, boats, of course they took out loans on all of these things and had no way to make the payments, so they lost them all. And then they were left with nothing.

Why didn't they have the money I wonder? They must have been getting the yearly payments and not the lump sum. As you know with most lotteries you can opt to get the lump sum but it's usually alot less than the full amount, usually 1/2 to 2/3 the full amount from what I've read.

yes, and then they take taxes out of what you do get.

the people I was watching on the show, all had the annual payments for 20 years. and you only get $50,000 per year per million that you win, and that's before taxes.

not really the kind of money you can run out and start giving away cars with.

Lotteries=Bad
Here in Canada you keep 100% of the initial amount, then pay high taxes on the interest...so that's ok, but I think the saying "easy come, easy go" applies (although that may be because I don't have a million dollars).
Sometimes I'm in the variety store and there is usually a line up with everyone spending 30 or more dollars on lottery tickets. What a shame. Also, lotteries are boring. If I really need to gamble (once every 2 or 3 years) I like playing poker with my family and if I win, I give all the money back anyway, it's just fun.

Lotteries are just a tax on people who are bad at math. :D

I would move to London & let Cheri be my financial adviser:cool: I like her ideas on how to use the money. No matter how big of piece of the pie someone else gets. I feel there's more than enough to go around. Money doesn't make you happy, it's how you use it does. $hare:mellow:
